Summary
A Welding Faculty member instructs students in theoretical and practical welding techniques, preparing them for industry certifications (AWS) and careers in manufacturing or fabrication. They develop curriculum, demonstrate processes like MIG, TIG, and Stick welding, and manage lab safety, equipment maintenance, and student assessment. Teaching assignments may include on‑campus and online environments. A commitment to academic excellence, instructional innovation, and student success is essential.
EssentialFunctions
- Teaching welding techniques such as SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, and FCAW
- Instructing students on blueprint reading, welding symbols, and metallurgy
- Preparing students for AWS certification exams and job readiness
- Demonstrating proper use of welding equipment and PPE
- Staying current with industry codes and instructional best practices
- Delivering high‑quality instruction in welding courses
- Developing and updating curriculum and course materials that reflect industry standards and employer needs, with an emphasis on skill development and workforce readiness
- Completing Program Reviews and coordinating with the Perkins Grant Coordinator for annual reporting needs
- Integrating teaching strategies that promote student engagement, critical thinking, and real‑world application, including scenario‑based learning, case study analysis, and active discussion
- Supporting dual enrollment and articulation partnerships with secondary schools and technical education providers
- Participating in the assessment of student learning outcomes and contributing to program‑level review and improvement efforts
- Engaging in regular communication and collaboration with industry partners, advisory boards, and regional stakeholders to ensure program relevance and foster workforce connections
- Participating in college governance, professional development, and student success initiatives
- Ensuring all program documents (e.g., catalog, guide sheets, admission information, handbooks and web site) are current and accurate
- Assisting in the Department scheduling, staffing and budget planning process to efficiently utilize the college's resources
- Being responsible for understanding, supporting and actively demonstrating the College’s beliefs, values, mission and vision and agreeing to be evaluated by the same

Students, Faculty, Staff, and Administration
External:
Industry experts, industry partners, vendors and advisory committee members.
- Associate Degree in Welding Technology or a related field
- American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Welding Educator or Certified Welding Inspector
- Three (3) years welding instruction experience OR five (5) years of documented experience working in a welding position and the ability to obtain the AWS credential

- Knowledge of welding safety, welding techniques, welding metallurgy, welding fabrication, welding inspection, and welding codes and standards
- Ability to develop curriculum, demonstrate proper safety, assess student performance, and maintain lab equipment. They must possess strong communication, technical expertise, and the ability to prepare students for industry certification
- Ability to demonstrate, teach, and troubleshoot welding processes (SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, FCAW, OFC, CAC‑A) and blueprint reading
The knowledge, skills and abilities required are often obtained by completing a degree or relevant certifications from a welding program and working 3‑5 years in a related position or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
