Special Education Teacher, Special Needs / Learning Disabilities, School Counselor
Summary:
Provide direct and indirect service to individual students receiving special education. Provide instructional leadership to general education and special education teachers. Schedule and chair IEPs for students on teacher consultant caseload and assigned special education classrooms. Serve as a liaison and consultant to local school districts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Experience:
- Required master's degree in education or a field of study related to special education.
- Show evidence of minimum of 3 years of satisfactory teaching experience, not less than 2 years of which shall be in teaching in a special education classroom.
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with special education endorsement
- Teacher Consultant approval from Department of Education or eligible for such approval.
- Valid Michigan driver's license and good driving record.
Skills and Abilities:
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents and community. Knowledge in developmental patterns, programming and instructional strategies for students with disabilities. Broad knowledge of occupations and prerequisite skills needed for job entry.
Employment Date, Salary, and Fringe Benefits:Anticipated employment date is August 21, 2026. Placement on the Special Education Salary Schedule depends on qualifications and experience. New employee starting salary range is $60,596 - $112,740. Paid health, dental, vision, life and long-term disability insurances, sick, and personal business days.
