Electrician Adjunct Instructor

Teach courses in the Electronic technology program based on the instructor’s qualifications and program needs. Instruction may include residential and commercial electrical wiring, electrical code, classroom and laboratory instruction in DC and AC theory, residential, commercial, and industrial wiring applications, National Electrical Code, and blueprint reading. Other instructional areas may include motor theory, programmable logic controllers, motor controls, power distribution, basic drafting, and related electrical applications.

Adjunct instructor positions are part-time. Teaching assignments vary by semester and are based on enrollment; therefore, there may be semesters where no assignments are available.

• Evaluate and grade students’ class work, laboratory activities, assignments, projects, and examinations.
• Prepare and deliver instructional materials, including syllabi, lesson plans, homework assignments, laboratory activities, handouts, assessments, and other course materials in person, online, or in a hybrid format.
• Provide classroom and laboratory instruction in residential, commercial, and industrial electrical applications, including wiring methods, electrical theory, blueprint reading, National Electrical Code, motor theory, motor controls, programmable logic controllers, and power distribution.
• Initiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom and laboratory discussions that support student learning, technical skill development, workplace readiness, and safe work practices.
• Compile, administer, and grade quizzes, examinations, skills assessments, laboratory projects, and other evaluations of student learning.
• Maintain accurate records of student attendance, participation, grades, and performance in accordance with college policies and reporting expectations.
• Promote safe laboratory practices and ensure students follow appropriate safety procedures when working with electrical tools, materials, equipment, and training systems.
• Assist students in understanding course expectations, developing technical competencies, and connecting to appropriate college resources, including tutoring, advising, accessibility services, and other student support services.
• Participate in required college and program reporting processes, including grades, attendance, participation, assessment of student learning, and other documentation as needed.
• Work collaboratively with department leadership, faculty, staff, and industry partners to support student achievement, program quality, and alignment with workforce expectations.

• Bachelor degree in the field of electrical applications or a related field, or
• Five years of recent experience in the electrical field with emphasis in residential, commercial, and industrial wiring applications, and National Electrical Code, and have completed a journeyman electrician program.
• Must hold a current Master Electrician license in the State of Michigan.
• Knowledge of electrical theory, wiring applications, motor theory, blueprint reading, basic drafting, motor controls, and programmable logic controllers.
• Demonstrated ability to teach and assess students in both classroom and laboratory settings.
• Demonstrated organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work successfully in a team environment.
