Summary
Selects, recruits, instructs and monitors student‑athletes for Cross Country. Provides preliminary budget projections, submits travel and equipment needs, and follows rules and guidelines in accordance with the College, NJCAA, and MCCAA.
This position requires availability in the early afternoons, nights, and weekends during the regular season.
Essential Functions- Provides preliminary budget projections.
- Recruits prospective student‑athletes in accordance with the college’s strategic enrollment targets, considering athletic and academic performance.
- Submits list of recruits for grant approval in accordance with the approved college budget.
- Prepares the team’s schedule and develops an annual on/off season plan with goals for athletics, academics, fund development, and community service.
- Supervises assistant coaches, volunteers, and student‑athletes (academic, practice, and games).
- Fosters sportsmanship, fair play, and a positive image for the college and athletic department.
- Coordinates practice schedules and trips.
- Manages team equipment, including inventory, repair, and replacement, and purchases in accordance with budget guidelines.
- Ensures compliance with NJCAA and MCCAA standards, rules, and regulations, and with the college’s administrative policies.
- Maintains good vehicle records for team travel and follows travel regulations.
- Uses purchasing credit card per guidelines.
- Tracks student academic performance and community service, and makes referrals to college resources when needed.
- Ensures team media information is accurate, current, and complete.
- Engages in athletic program fund development and supports student‑athlete preparation for athletic and academic transfers.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Supervises assistant coaches and student employees, including training, hiring, and termination recommendations, with all final decisions within the authority of the Assistant Dean.
Qualifications- Education and Experience: Associate Degree or equivalent;
Bachelor’s in Physical Education, Health Promotion, or related field preferred. Minimum three years of experience as a coach at college, high school, or club level; college coaching experience preferred. - Certifications: Must be CPR/First Aid certified or obtain certification within 30 days of employment; must possess a valid Michigan driver’s license with no restrictions.

Able to read and interpret documents, and communicate effectively in written and oral formats, including speaking before large audiences. - Mathematical
Skills:
Ability to perform basic arithmetic and apply basic statistical concepts. - Reasoning Ability: Applies common sense to carry out instructions and solve problems involving multiple variables in standardized situations.
The position requires the employee to talk or hear regularly, use hands and fingers, stand, walk, run, sit, reach, lift or move up to 10 pounds, and adjust vision as required.
