Location

This position is onsite at the Jackson Service Center located in Jackson, MI. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify).

General Summary of

Job Responsibilities

The Manager Electric Services manages substation work performed at Transmission, High Voltage Distribution (HVD) and Distribution Substations as well as the various generating complexes. This role is responsible for the operation of HVD and Distribution substations and associated line equipment in an assigned area. The position requires complex planning, organizing, coordination, and supervision of operation activities associated with HVD lines, HVD substations and Distribution substations;

and, maintenance, construction and repairs of substations. This role will also have responsibilities including the planning and managing of extensive complex scheduled and unscheduled maintenance work, construction coordination, and technical guidance substation systems. This role provides oversight and direction, and interfaces with multiple work groups and customers internal and external to the Company.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Participate in local problem solving and implementing department initiatives. Advocate of Lean methodologies, identifies, and implements ways to improve substation operations in a safe and cost effective manner.
  • Coordination of construction, commissioning, and maintenance activities with customers and other interconnected utilities.
  • Respond to substation outages in assigned area or in support of other areas. Participate in On-Call rotation.
  • Direct management of employees in assigned area including the complex planning organization, and monitoring of work, education and adherence to Corporate Safety Manual, Procedures Manual, MIOSHA standards, OSHA standards, Business Continuity Plans, Code of Conduct and all Employee Policy and Process manuals. Responsible for grievance procedures, on investigations (safety and disciplinary) and associated disciplinary recourse.
  • Preform complex pre job planning and employee supervision including coordination with other work groups, review of design drawings to determine scope of work, commissioning time requirements, and determining the level of worker required to perform the work. Oversees jobs and must be familiar with switching, tagging and clearances on HVD and distribution substations and lines.
  • Responsible for planning, organization, coordination, and evaluation of workplan for substations in assigned area. Serve as lead for all work groups to coordinate work. Implement and execute preventative maintenance programs. Includes researching, ordering and receiving materials, tools and equipment for substation maintenance, test and construction activities, including creating capital and expense work orders for repair and replacement of substation equipment and documenting test results and equipment data.
  • Manage Time Sheet approval, Estimated Straight Time accounting, training scheduling, Read and Sign scheduling/adherence, ARCOS entry, edits and reporting, request and reserve on call resources, Personal Protective Equipment acquisition and distribution including inspection, testing and replacement.
  • Directs regular safety meetings, performs incident investigation and completes necessary incident reports and accident reports; maintains records, prepares and submits required reports for appropriate agencies.
  • Provide storm restoration support including on call assignments as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned or may be necessary.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
  • Knowledge and promotion of Human Performance Tools to eliminate operational errors
  • Ability to direct resources in both routine and non-routine/emergency operations
  • Understanding of business drivers and operational priorities. Ability to coordinate activities amongst internal and external work groups
  • Thorough understanding of the Working Agreement and the ability to resolve union concerns
  • Demonstrated skill in transfer of knowledge and employee development
