Location:
This is a hybrid (virtual/onsite) position with required onsite days on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday and may be assigned to any Consumers Energy Electric Service Center located throughout Michigan's lower Peninsula. The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance or willing to relocate (relocation package is available for those that qualify).
Job Responsibilities
The Senior Program Engineer is responsible for overseeing the engineering and technical disciplines required to successfully deliver projects. This role includes planning projects, establishing project criteria, coordinating project reviews, and ensuring the effective implementation of all project elements. The incumbent will schedule, plan, forecast, resource, and manage all technical activities to ensure project accuracy and quality from concept through completion.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Support Agile project delivery by helping balance team performance with tight deadlines.
- Develop specifications for required project equipment.
- Monitor compliance with applicable codes, standards, QA/QC policies, and performance requirements.
- Review engineering deliverables and initiate appropriate corrective actions.
- Provide technical assistance and support to project managers and other stakeholders.
- Prepare, schedule, coordinate, and monitor assigned engineering projects.
- Assign responsibilities and mentor project team members.
- Build strong partnerships with business stakeholders and develop a deep understanding of their objectives.
- Perform other duties as assigned or required.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Proficiency in design and visualization software (e.g., AutoCAD).
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, with the ability to quickly learn new software.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Solid understanding of GD&T principles.
- Familiarity with applicable rules, regulations, best practices, and performance standards.
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program with four (4) or more years of experience in a program engineer capacity
- [OR] Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from a non‑ABET accredited program plus a Professional Engineering license with four (4) or more years of experience in a program engineer capacity
- The candidate should possess a fundamental understanding of engineering and construction contracts, as well as the technical documentation required for a complete bid and construction package. This position oversees and coordinates internal and external engineering resources to produce comprehensive construction documents for both major and minor modifications to electric generating plants.
- The ideal candidate will have experience as a consulting design engineer with a regional or national engineering firm and moderate knowledge in civil, structural, or geotechnical design and construction. This role includes developing detailed scopes of work for external engineering firms and managing the work, progress, and delivery of high‑quality engineering and construction documents.
- The candidate must be highly organized, self‑motivated, and capable of managing multiple projects and assignments simultaneously. Strong communication, coordination, and time‑management skills are critical, as the role requires working independently as an engineering lead with moderate day‑to‑day oversight.
- Experience overseeing engineering consultants (sub‑consultants) and negotiating scope, schedule, and budget to meet project requirements is strongly preferred.
- General knowledge of traditional power plant systems and renewable energy systems is preferred but not required.
