General

Summary:

At Jackson Interfaith Shelter, we believe that healing and stability begin with compassion, understanding, and the right support. The Therapist plays a vital role in helping our clients navigate the challenges that led them to homelessness and take steps toward long-term wellness and self-sufficiency. This position provides counseling and emotional support to individuals and families staying at the shelter, addressing issues such as trauma, addiction, grief, and mental health challenges.

As this is a brand new role at JIS, our priority is finding someone who shares our heart for this mission and can effectively build this position to help our clients move forward with hope and dignity.

Essential Functions:
  • Model the mission and core values of the Jackson Interfaith Shelter.
  • Maintain and promote a cooperative, collaborative environment in alignment with the philosophy and policies of JIS. Ensure compliance with all shelter policies to maintain a positive living and working environment for all.
  • Assist in the development of policies and procedures which promote and create a safe and welcoming environment for residents by greeting residents, responding to resident request(s) for assistance or supplies needed from the office/storage areas, and ensuring clients are provided a high quality of emotional support.
  • Provide clinically indicated counseling interventions according to best practices and validated tools for adult and child residents receiving services at Jackson Interfaith Shelter.
  • Document counseling interventions and response of person served after each session.
  • Demonstrate a variety of group therapy skills to facilitate group, focusing on the treatment goal(s) as indicated in progress notes of the person served
  • Demonstrate an ability to provide therapy for a variety of problems and crisis situations.
  • Coordinate multiple treatment activities with other professionals and makes appropriate referrals based on assessment needs and as indicated on treatment plan, progress note, and case review.
  • Provide clinical and supportive counseling services including individual, group, and family therapy in a trauma‑informed, recovery‑oriented, person‑centered, and solution focused manner.
  • Facilitate psycho‑educational classes and/or groups pertaining to but not limited to parenting skills, independent living skills, anger management, or behavior management.
  • Deliver evidenced‑based interventions as trained and appropriate to the consumer needs (example: Trauma‑Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy).
  • Maintain up‑to‑date documentation in the appropriate electronic records system(s).
  • Build and maintain healthy, productive professional relationships with clients and safeguard client confidentiality, per the Homeless Management Information System requirements.
  • Facilitate and model for client’s positive interactions including problem solving, mediation, crisis intervention, and de‑escalation.
  • Attend regular staff meetings and represent Jackson Interfaith Shelter in a positive way.
  • Attend and complete trainings required by Jackson Interfaith Shelter (HMIS, CPR & First Aid, de‑escalation, Adverse Childhood Experiences, etc.).
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of current practices, methods, and procedures in the delivery of behavioral health services, diagnosis, and treatment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of all regulations, contract requirements, and standards applicable to performance of duties.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in order to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of stakeholders (consumers, professionals, and community members).
