Recipient Rights Officer (Finance)

Are you passionate about protecting individual rights and ensuring ethical, high-quality behavioral health services? Life Ways is seeking a dynamic and mission-driven Recipient Rights Officer to lead and strengthen our Recipient Rights Office.

In this highly visible leadership role, you will serve as the organizations authority on recipient rights ensuring compliance with the Michigan Mental Health Code and state regulations while championing the rights of individuals receiving services across our provider network.

Reporting exclusively to the CEO, you will oversee the entire Recipient Rights System and serve as the designated Rights Advisor for the Life Ways Substance Use Disorder (SUD) program operating independently to receive and investigate all SUD recipient rights complaints free from interference or reprisal.

What Youll Do
  • Lead and supervise Recipient Rights staff, including coaching, performance evaluations, and professional development.
  • Conduct thorough, impartial complaint investigations interviewing relevant parties, reviewing evidence, and making informed determinations in alignment with laws, policies, and contracts.
  • Provide in-person, virtual, and telephone consultations to resolve concerns and reinforce compliance.
  • Oversee and deliver Recipient Rights training for new hires and annual in-service education through Relias.
  • Conduct death reviews and participate in treatment plan consultations to ensure rights protections remain central to care.
  • Serve as consultant and non-voting member of the Behavior Treatment Committee.
  • Coordinate the Recipient Rights Advisory Council (RRAC) and RR Appeals Committee, serving as liaison to both.
  • Prepare MDHHS-ORR Annual and Semi-Annual Reports for executive and board-level review.
  • Conduct site visits and policy reviews to ensure compliance across in-network and out-of-network providers.
  • Lead preparation for the triennial MDHHS-ORR assessment.
  • Maintain and annually review Recipient Rights policies and procedures to ensure ongoing compliance and excellence.
