Minimum of 1 year of recent full-time experience as a Registered Dietitian in acute care, nursing home, or inpatient rehabilitation setting.

License:
Active Registered Dietitian or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist credential from the Commission on Dietetic Registration.

Certifications:

Advanced Practice Certification preferred.

Must-Have:
Experience with enteral and parenteral nutrition. Trained in the completion of a nutrition-focused physical examination.

Description:

Act as a nutritional consultant and resource to members of the healthcare team. Provide comprehensive nutritional care including assessment, nutrition diagnosis, implementation of a care plan, counseling, education, and evaluation of outcomes to patients, families, and associates. Coordinate various education programs and seminars on nutritional topics. Assess the nutritional needs of patients by obtaining, verifying, and interpreting data needed to identify nutrition-related problems, their causes, and significance.

Determine, from patient/family and medical records, the food and nutrition-related history, anthropometric measurements, biochemical data, medical tests, procedures, and nutrition-focused physical findings. Determine the nutrition diagnosis to identify and describe a specific nutrition problem that can be resolved or improved through treatment and nutrition intervention. Implement nutrition interventions based on individualized, specific patient care needs, including food and or nutrient delivery, nutrition education, nutrition counseling, and coordination of care.

Monitor and evaluate patient care outcomes to determine progress and whether goals are being met. Monitor patients' food tolerances to ensure appropriate food consistencies and assess adequate nutritional intake. Collaborate and communicate with healthcare providers, acting as a consultant. Inform the care team of advances in diet therapy, unusual diet-related lab results, and other pertinent facts. Investigate unusual occurrences and customer service complaints.

Educate patients and/or their significant others on nutrition and special diets to maintain health. Maintain documentation of nutrition services provided in patient medical records. Develop and conduct in-service classes and community education on nutrition topics as needed. Participate in special projects and committees related to nutritional care. Maintain and enhance professional expertise through appropriate educational activities. Develop and maintain educational resources appropriate to patient and audience needs.

Supervise dietetic interns/students, orienting them to the profession and providing clinical teaching, precepting, and mentoring throughout their program. Act as a liaison with culinary wellness departments, addressing needs of patients, employees, and staff. Demonstrate professional characteristics and ethics, adhering to policies and maintaining up-to-date knowledge and skills. Perform other related duties as required.
