Dietitian - Registered Dietitian

Hours per Shift: 4 - 10 or 5 - 8 or combination of shift hours

Experience: Minimum of 1 year of recent full-time experience as a Registered Dietitian in acute care, nursing home, or inpatient rehabilitation

License: Registered Dietitian or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist credential from the Commission on Dietetic Registration

Certifications: Advanced Practice Certification preferred

Must-Have:

  • Experience with completion of Nutrition Focused Physical Exam (NFPE)
  • Experience with enteral and parenteral nutrition
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to perform arithmetic calculations
  • Strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with medical professionals, patients, and families

Description:

Act as a nutritional consultant and resource to members of the healthcare team.

Provide comprehensive nutritional care including assessment, diagnosis, implementation of a care plan, counseling, education, and evaluation of outcomes to patients, families, and associates.

Coordinate various education programs and seminars on nutritional topics.

Assess the nutritional needs of patients by obtaining, verifying, and interpreting relevant data.

Determine the food and nutrition-related history, anthropometric measurements, biochemical data, medical tests, nutrition-focused physical findings, and client history.

Identify and describe specific nutrition problems that can be resolved or improved through treatment and nutrition intervention.

Implement nutrition interventions to improve identified nutrition problems based on individual patient care needs.

Monitor and evaluate patient care outcomes to determine progress and whether goals are being met.

Ensure appropriate food consistencies and assess adequate nutritional intake through monitoring patient food tolerances.

Collaborate and communicate with healthcare providers as a consultant.

Inform the team of advances in diet therapy and any unusual diet-related lab results.

Educate patients and/or their significant others on nutrition and special diets as required.

Maintain documentation of nutrition services in the patient’s medical record.

Develop and conduct in-service classes, community education, and other nutrition offerings as assigned.

Participate in special projects and committees related to nutritional care.

Enhance professional expertise through educational activities.

Develop and maintain educational resources appropriate to patient and audience needs.

Supervise dietetic interns/students by providing clinical teaching and mentoring.

Act as a liaison with relevant departments addressing needs of patients and staff.

Demonstrate professional characteristics by adhering to policies and maintaining up-to-date knowledge and skills.

Perform other related duties as required.
