Regulatory Compliance Specialist
R.W Mercer Co. is a family-owned construction and service company headquartered in Jackson, Michigan, with seven locations – six in Michigan and one in Indiana. The company operates in three distinct areas of construction: petroleum contracting and service, and general contracting. In each area, R.W. Mercer provides a turn‑key approach that includes planning, design, construction, and installation as well as service, monitoring, and maintenance.
R.W. Mercer is seeking a Human Resources Generalist who will be responsible for assisting with daily Human Resources operations. The right person will be proactive and resourceful, have strong knowledge and experience in Human Resources and Office Administration. Professionalism, confidentiality, business acumen, and a level head are imperative traits for this position.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:Employee Sourcing, Onboarding, Training & Retention:
- Draft and Maintain Job Description s for all positions
- Post jobs and manage the Applicant Tracking System
- Screening resumes and applications and conducting initial screening and interviews
- Work with hiring managers to execute the best strategy for sourcing that position
- Offer letter drafting and execution.
- Manage the onboarding process and conduct orientation
- Work with hiring managers to create a training roadmap and 30‑60‑90‑day follow‑ups
- Mange the termination process and conduct exit interview
- Reporting key metrics to Executive Management
- Assist with questions and coordination of resolving employee benefits issues.
- Administration and coordination of open enrollment, mid‑year enrollments and terminations.
- Tracking PTO and scheduling
- Work with Human Resources Manager and Finance to ensure all employee contribution changes for bi‑weekly payroll are accurate
- Quarterly enrollment
- Quarterly Match eligibility
- Ensure time entry procedures are followed
- Work with HR Manager and Finance to process bi‑weekly payrolls and any off cycle runs
- Understanding and helping maintain compliance for any federal/state/city payroll changes
- Responsible for Monthly/Quarterly/Annual reporting to regulatory agencies
- Responsible for the upkeep of all personnel files
- Conduct periodic internal audits
- DOT Licensing Management
- Fair and professional advocate for employees, while acting in the best interest of the Company.
- Open‑door policy, so employees know they can come to the HR Generalist without feeling unsure of motives.
- Other duties as assigned.
- College or professional degree or relevant work experience in lieu of
- Proven leadership skills
- Ability to serve as a knowledgeable and objective resource for the management team.

- Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills
- 3‑5 years of relevant work experience
