Contract Duration: Contract through 03/05/2027 (High potential for extension)

Location: Jackson, MI 49201 (Metering Technology Center, Parnell Road)

Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:35 PM (Hybrid on Tuesdays; in-office other days)

Position Overview:

We are seeking a technically skilled and detail-oriented Meter Technical Analyst to support the SEOC team, primarily focused on exception management. This role requires someone with investigative abilities—someone who enjoys digging into data, identifying anomalies, and driving issues to resolution.

The ideal candidate is comfortable working independently while also collaborating with other teams to solve complex problems and improve processes to prevent recurring issues.

About the Department:

The Smart Energy Operation Center (SEOC) at Consumers Energy is responsible for monitoring and maintaining our metering devices, ensuring accurate communication and data flow from meters through all systems to billing. A critical focus of the SEOC is exception management—identifying, investigating, and resolving issues when systems are not aligned.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Investigate and resolve exceptions related to metering devices and system data discrepancies.
  • Analyze multiple systems, read notes, and research anomalies to determine root causes.
  • Use Microsoft Excel extensively for data manipulation, tracking, and reporting.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and field personnel to resolve technical issues.
  • Identify process gaps and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Work independently on assigned cases while maintaining communication with the broader team.

Qualifications:

  • Strong technical skills and analytical mindset; ability to dig into complex systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (data analysis, pivot tables, formulas, and reporting).
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams.
  • Willingness to investigate, problem-solve, and follow issues through to resolution.
  • Utility-specific knowledge (metering, SAP, or energy operations) is preferred but not required.
  • Flexible experience level: entry-level candidates with strong analytical skills are encouraged, as well as experienced professionals with a background in quality, operations, or utilities.

Additional Information:

  • This is a contract position for one year, with potential for extension based on performance and business needs.
  • Interviews will be conducted in person by a three-person panel; a first-round phone interview may be considered.
  • The role emphasizes a “detective mindset” over prior utility experience—willingness to dig, research, and collaborate is key.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Curious, investigative, and proactive problem solver.
  • Comfortable working with data and multiple systems simultaneously.
  • Enjoys bringing issues to resolution and improving processes.
  • Thrives in a detail-oriented, exception-focused environment.
