Principal Cloud Engineer

Optomi, in partnership with a leading electric, gas, and utilities organization, is seeking a Principal Cloud Engineer to serve as a senior technical authority driving the evolution of enterprise cloud platforms. This role is ideal for a cloud leader who enjoys shaping strategy, building scalable platforms, and enabling engineering teams through strong architecture, governance, and automation practices.

• Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of experience in cloud architecture, Dev Ops, infrastructure automation, or platform engineering or Equivalent combination of education and progressive technical experience
• Proven experience designing and leading large-scale cloud or hybrid infrastructure platforms
• Strong background in cloud architecture with deep Azure expertise; AWS and GCP experience is a plus
• Hands‑on experience with Infrastructure as Code and automation (Terraform, Bicep, scripting languages)
• Advanced knowledge of cloud-native and Dev Ops tooling such as Kubernetes, CI/CD platforms, Git Ops, and service meshes
• Solid understanding of cloud security, governance, and compliance frameworks (SOC 2, ISO, HIPAA, etc.)
• Linux and Windows operating systems
• Monitoring, observability, and resiliency tooling
• Backup, recovery, and disaster recovery solutions

• Architect and evolve enterprise‑grade cloud platforms across hybrid and multi‑cloud environments, with a strong emphasis on Azure and exposure to AWS and GCP
• Establish and guide cloud standards, governance models, and secure‑by‑default platform practices across engineering teams
• Design reusable infrastructure patterns and reference architectures that accelerate delivery while maintaining security and reliability
• Lead large‑scale cloud initiatives such as modernization efforts, platform transformations, and complex migrations
• Drive adoption of cloud‑native technologies including containers, Kubernetes, serverless architectures, and event‑driven systems
• Partner closely with engineering, security, operations, and business stakeholders to align cloud solutions with long‑term organizational goals
• Mentor senior engineers and influence architectural decision‑making across teams
• Guide tooling and platform investments, including Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD pipelines, observability, and platform engineering capabilities
• Support production cloud environments through advanced troubleshooting, performance optimization, and availability improvements
