Job Description
The Michigan Department of Corrections is proud to be a Michigan Veteran’s Affairs Agency (MVAA) Gold Level Veteran Friendly Employer. MDOC employs nearly 1,500 veterans and active‑serving military members across the department. The position trains and supervises prisoner workers in the production, packaging and distribution of powdered and liquid janitorial and laundry products. The incumbent keeps production records, monitors production quality, is responsible for inventory control, and enforces all safety and security procedures.
- Drug/Alcohol Test Designated (DART) position in accordance with Civil Service Rules.
- Subclass code for Janitorial and Distribution Center.
Education and Experience
Educational level typically acquired through the completion of high school.
- One year of specific industry production or service experience.
- Two years of specific industry production or service experience; or, one year of experience equivalent to an Industries Production Leader in the specific industry.
- Three years of specific industry production or service experience including one year of supervisory experience.
Education and Experience
- One year of experience involving direct supervision of offenders and six months experience in the specific production/manufacturing or service industry.
- One year of experience involving direct supervision of offenders and one year experience in any production/manufacturing industry.
- Two years of experience in any production/manufacturing industry.
- Knowledge of plant layouts.
- Knowledge of manufacturing methods and practices for the goods being made or services being provided.
- Knowledge of methods of maintaining efficient production.
- Knowledge of computer software applications.
- Knowledge of standards of operation.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Knowledge of departmental rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of warehousing, inventories and production control.
- Ability to direct and instruct prisoners.
- Ability to direct machine setup and operation.
- Ability to monitor quality of products and services.
- Ability to evaluate and counsel prisoners as to their capabilities.
- Leadership ability and capability of motivating people.
- This is a DART (Drug/Alcohol Test Designated) position in accordance with Civil Service Rules.
- This position has a subclass code for Janitorial and Distribution Center.
The Department of Corrections may screen out job applicants who have been convicted of a felony in accordance with Public Act 191 of 2017. Applicants who have been convicted of a misdemeanor or felony are ineligible for employment with the Department of Corrections until satisfactory completion of any sentence imposed, including parole or probation.
