Male Engagement Coordinator

Oversee the utilization of a research-based Fatherhood Curriculum in alignment with Head Start Performance Standards to promote father engagement in Head Start and Early Head Start. This includes supporting fathers in prenatal and postpartum components of child development, preschool education, and ongoing family services, including referral to CAA programs and other community programs to help them obtain needed services and meet established goals.

Oversee community wide male engagement efforts including events, classes, workshops, and support groups utilizing research-based methods and strong strategic partnerships with community organizations (as funding allows).CAA acknowledges that by engaging strong male role models including HS/EHS fathers from the beginning, there is a lasting impact on children, families, and the community. It furthers their connection and involvement in the development of their children, improving their well-being, and placing importance on fathers as contributors to school readiness.

Positive male engagement impacts communities by increase family bounding outcomes, positive sense of community, and impacting current and future generations.

The term “Fathers” includes biological as well as father figures that are important to a child/family enrolled in the program.
1. Know and function in accordance with all required standards and licensing guidelines including Head Start Performance Standards, Great Start Readiness Program Standards, NAEYC Standards, and State of Michigan Child Daycare Licensing Regulations.
2. Must adhere to CAA’s and Head Start philosophy and goals to help families become self-sufficient and males and fathers to become more actively involved in their child’s lives and large community.
3. Develop and implement an active and robust Fatherhood Engagement Narrative for Head Start and Early Head Start in Jackson/Hillsdale counties.
4. Develop and implement an active and robust community wide Male Engagement Strategy for Jackson/Hillsdale/Lenawee counties (as funding allows)5. Establishing and supporting the procurement of additional funding to support male engagement work across communities.
6. Ensure all procedures and components are inclusive of all families and cultures utilizing best practices in the areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
7. Actively participate in the agencies Trauma Informed Care Team, including agency development team, providing voice for the male perspective in programming.
8. Coordinate and facilitate an active Male Engagement Committee, ensuring representation from staff, parents, and community members.
9. Plan and facilitate Fatherhood Engagement Events for enrolled families in alignment with the Fatherhood Engagement Narrative.
10. Plan and facilitate community wide Male Engagement Events for the tri-county area.
11. Responsible for ongoing recruitment and working collaboratively with community partners to identify and serve eligible men and families, including attendance at community meetings and events.
12. Recognize existing strengths of CAA staff and build positive, trusting, mentoring relationships. Adapt successfully to diverse learning styles of adults and families.
13. Visit classrooms or participate in home visits as requested to further fatherhood engagement or male child practices in the program to ensure families are supported in a holistic manner between inter-agency programs and community partners.
14. Collaborate with community agencies to support children, family, and agency outcomes. Ability to familiarize parents with available resources in the areas served by reviewing the Community Resource Directory and explaining 211. Make referrals for families to CAA and other agencies and follow up on referrals within 30 days, to ensure that services are accessed.
15. Responsible for maintaining current and accurate records, reporting, and data entry as required by the program, while maintaining confidentiality.
