About USACSThe System Medical Director’s primary responsibility is to care for patients by building highly reliable, high‑performing clinical teams and producing effective outcomes for patients and the organization. The System Medical Director is responsible for providing leadership to all Hospital Medicine Medical Directors at multiple hospital sites within a Hospital System. They collaborate with the Regional APP Director, Medical Directors, nursing leadership, hospital medical staff, and hospital administration.
As the leader they are accountable for key performance metrics and creating an inclusive work environment. As the senior leader they provide performance coaching, recognition, and career guidance to their site leaders and they are accountable for creating a pipeline of talent for the organization.
- Leads by example; role models the USACS House Rules and creates a culture that embraces diversity and inclusion.
- Builds and retains an effective team, leveraging talent processes effectively (hNPS, eNPS, Performance Management, Talent Management, Leadership Development, and succession planning)
- Establishes and participates in recruiting qualified leaders for all sites within the system, including crucial ancillary (site admin, site RN where applicable, APP leaders etc.) personnel, to create the most capable multidisciplinary clinical team possible.
- Establishes and participates in the recruitment of qualified hospital medicine providers.
- Ensures appropriate credentialing, orientation, and training of providers in compliance with hospital policies and departmental needs.
- Maintains knowledge of facility human resources (HR) policies and procedures and works with HR and legal teams.
- Monthly review of performance incentive scorecards and identify areas of opportunities, design action plans, and hold teams accountable for implementation.
- Provide input into the performance incentive scorecard metrics and tiers selection process as applicable.
- Identifies, participates in, and provides opportunities for ongoing, focused education courses for/by the staff, as appropriate to each site's staff, patient population, and needs.
- Additional teaching or supervisory responsibilities may exist in teaching facilities.
- Work to ensure that medical staff policies support the department and hospital vision for site care.
- Oversee the staffing and scheduling of physicians and APPs in concert with annual budget targets.
- Annually assist in developing the USACS budget and setting goals on productivity and cost.
