Schedule: 3-12 Hour Shifts from 6pm-6:30am;
Weekend and holiday requirement
Location: Henry Ford Jackson
Preferred Experience: Experience in post‑partum, labor and delivery, nursery or pediatrics, along with leadership experience.
General SummaryThe Clinical Unit Leader (CUL) works under general supervision from the unit manager and/or director and follows the policies and guidelines established within the organization and the unit. The CUL’s priority is to function as shift supervisor and clinical liaison with staff, physicians, and management, providing continuity of leadership day to day. The CUL, in conjunction with the unit manager, acts as a supervisor, role model, mentor, coach, and resource person to staff to ensure that all unit standards are maintained and a team‑oriented work environment is preserved.
The CUL is involved in attracting, developing, maintaining, and retaining qualified staff members. Duties include assisting with hiring, orientation, performance evaluation, problem solving, employee counseling and corrective action, staff staffing, assignment, direction, and payroll. The CUL also serves as a contact for internal and external customers and is responsible for creating an environment that fosters positive customer service, meets all quality and accreditation standards, and implements and monitors new processes.
Practice
Rotate to the off shifts as determined by staffing needs and the nurse manager to provide clinical assessment, mentoring, coaching, and evaluation of staff.
Management of Clinical AreaParticipate in the development and implementation of unit or area goals and objectives. Identify and plan for staffing consistent with the needs of the patient population and budgetary requirements. Participate in planning and problem‑solving of daily unit/area operations, prioritizing patient services and urgent and emergent care.
QA and ResearchParticipate in planning, coordinating, and evaluating unit quality metrics and quality improvement activities. Promote the integration of research findings into clinical practice by unit nursing staff. Promote staff involvement in evidence‑based practice and clinical research, as applicable.

Education/Experience Required- Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing or Associate’s Degree of Science in Nursing with the expectation of obtaining a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing within five (5) years.
- Previous experience in a leadership role (Charge Nurse, Supervisor, Shift Supervisor, etc).
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in an acute care environment.
- Professional Certifications to support a culture of nursing excellence.
- Ability to problem‑solve, effective verbal and written communication skills, and interpersonal skills necessary for effective leadership of the patient care team.
- Strong nursing processes, critical thinking, and advanced assessment skills required.
- Knowledge about and experience in the department population served.
- Valid BLS certifications.
