About the Role

We are seeking Lab Technician I professionals to join our compliance-focused Nondestructive Testing (NDT) team. This team inspects pipelines, structural welds, lift devices, wind turbines, and other construction projects across the Lower Peninsula of Michigan. The role involves working with radiation and performing radiography, requiring strict adherence to safety and quality standards.

This is a full‑time, onsite Contract position with travel required to multiple job sites. Weekend work is generally voluntary, with an average workweek of 53–55 hours.

Key Responsibilities
  • Travel daily to different job sites across Michigan’s Lower Peninsula.
  • Conduct inspections of pipelines, structural welds, new construction, bucket trucks, lift devices, and windmills.
  • Work in teams of two, utilizing company or client vehicles as needed.
  • Adhere to all quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) procedures and acceptance criteria.
  • Follow radiation safety protocols; complete a 40‑hour radiation safety course provided by CMS Energy after the first week of employment.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections and test results.
Required Qualifications
  • Willingness to undergo a background check including:
    Drug test; DMV checks (reliable transportation required; occasional use of client vehicles may be necessary);
    Verification of education and employment history;
    Fingerprinting after start date (due to working with radioactive materials)
  • Ability to follow detailed procedures and comply with established QA/QC standards.
  • Experience with acceptance criteria/codes is a plus.
  • Prior lab experience is not required, but prior QA/QC experience is preferred.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and travel frequently.
  • Strong attention to detail and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Ability to perform mathematically intensive tasks related to radiation safety testing.
  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license.
  • Flexible, adaptable, and willing to work varied schedules including potential overtime.
  • Onsite in Jackson, MI, with travel to multiple locations across the Lower Peninsula.
  • Team‑based environment (approximately 23 technicians in the department).
  • Hands‑on inspection and testing involving radioactive materials.

  • Radiation Safety Training: Required 40‑hour course after starting role.
  • Schedule: Average 53–55 hours per week; some weekend work may be required.
