Plumber
Position Summary
Employees in this role participate in and oversee plumbing installation, repair, and maintenance projects on state properties such as office buildings, prisons, and hospitals. This is an advanced level position. The employee functions as a crew leader, overseeing the work of lower-level plumbers, prisoners, and others, and performs journey‑level plumbing assignments. The position involves 50% or more prisoner contact and/or supervision and is located in the secured area of the prison.

Possession of a journey plumber’s license issued by the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Growth.
Qualifications- Plumber E10
- Educational level typically acquired through completion of high school.
- Five years of experience in the plumbing trade, including one year equivalent to a Plumber E9 in State service.
- Completion of a vocational training program in plumbing that includes commercial or industrial level instruction may substitute for two years of experience assisting skilled tradespeople.
Some positions may require possession of a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) issued by the Secretary of State as required by Public Act 346 of 1988 to operate a designated state vehicle.
Any position may also require possession of a journey plumber’s license issued by the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Growth.
Legal and Ethical RequirementsThe Department of Corrections may screen out job applicants who have been convicted of a felony in accordance with Public Act 191 of 2017. Applicants who have been convicted of a misdemeanor or felony are ineligible for employment with the Department of Corrections until satisfactory completion of any sentence imposed, including parole or probation.
