Position

Title: Electrician –
Location: Jackson, MI

Wages

Hourly rate: $43.21 to $49.53 based on skill level. Master license holders eligible for $45.31 to $51.63. Overtime paid at 1.5% of the hourly rate after 8 hours. Average work schedule ranges between 45–55 hours Monday through Friday.

Purpose of Position

Install and support photovoltaic (PV) solar systems, ensuring safety, quality, and compliance with NEC specifications. Coach apprentices and collaborate with the construction crew to achieve project completion.

Responsibilities Skill Level 1
  • Connect solar panels, inverters, and high‑voltage equipment to a building’s power supply.
  • Assemble, install, test, and maintain PV electrical wiring, breakers, and equipment.
  • Test PV electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, and equipment based on local codes.
  • Install underground cabling, single and multiple conduit runs efficiently.
  • Inspect and maintain solar systems, mounting hardware, combiner fuse boxes, inverters, switch gear, circuit breakers, transformers, revenue meters, and other AC and DC equipment.
  • Inspect pre‑existing electrical systems in homes and businesses for code violations and safety before integrating the PV system.
  • Understand and utilize blueprints and technical diagrams to complete projects.
  • Maintain, load, and secure trucks, trailers, and equipment.
  • Report safety incidents to supervisors and complete required accident reports.
  • Work collaboratively with other installers and electricians to ensure product quality.
  • Identify potential hazards before working with energized equipment and practice safety standards.
  • Communicate with customers professionally and respectfully, answering questions and concerns.
  • Represent Harvest Solar through professional dress, conduct, and behavior on site or with customers.
  • Maintain a high level of quality assurance and control with an emphasis on safety.
  • Meet with jurisdictional authorities to explain questions professionally.
  • Maintain license through company‑provided education.
  • Document work completed and materials used.
Skill Level 2
  • Perform all Level 1 tasks and pass practical testing on conduit bending, wiring a transformer, inverter wiring, and written testing on lineside/load side tap and equipment spacing.
  • Review system and interconnection design for adherence to NEC and best practice.
  • Work with crew to complete projects within established codes, policies, and procedures.
  • Follow Harvest Solar best practices for PV installations and support associates.
Skill Level 3
  • Perform all Level 1 and 2 tasks and pass written testing on complex lineside/loadside tap, oneline values, and DC wiring.
  • Repair or replace PV‑related wiring and equipment.
  • Inspect, evaluate, and test batteries, data acquisition systems, relays, programmable logic controllers, and weather stations.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot system malfunctions and operational issues.
Skill Level 4
  • Complete 12 months of employment with successful Level 1–3 tasks and an average Skill Matrix rating of 3.
  • Support the “electrical apprentice” program, including training associates and participating in the apprentice committee.
  • Evaluate new hires and apprentices for competency.
  • Manual duties may change at any time with or without notice.
Educational and Certification Background
  • Must hold a Michigan Electrician license (Journeyman or Master).
  • NABCEP certification preferred.
  • General construction knowledge preferred.
  • Two to three years of experience with electrical systems; 1–3 years of solar installation experience preferred.
  • Valid State Driver’s License; CDL certification preferred.
  • MIOSHA certification (OSHA 30) required.
