Water Treatment Plant Mechanic/Relief Operator II – Internal & External
General
Summary:
Under the supervision of a higher classified employee, performs maintenance and repair of electrical, mechanical, and water supply systems at the Water Treatment Plant and Pumping Station. Serves as a qualified relief operator as assigned.

Eligibility Requirements- Valid Michigan driver’s license and good driving record at the time of appointment, which must be maintained during employment.
- High school education and two years’ experience in equipment maintenance and repair are required.
- A 2‑year vocational certificate/degree in a related field is desired but not required; consideration may be given to additional related education substituting part of the minimum experience requirement.
- Must obtain a minimum of F‑4 water treatment certification within one (1) year of appointment and maintain it during employment.
- Valid Michigan Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within six (6) months of hire, with a good driving record, and licensed to operate job‑required equipment as mandated by State law.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English as necessary for the position.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions and to work well with other employees and members of the public.
- Expected to maintain orderly law‑abiding citizenship, sobriety, integrity, and loyalty as it pertains to employment with the City.
- Physical and mental ability to perform the essential duties without excessive absences.
The employee is frequently required to stand, sit, walk, use arms, hands, and fingers, talk, hear, and see.
