General
Summary:
Under the supervision of a higher classified employee, operates various pieces of construction type equipment in the process of maintaining repairing streets, public rights-of-way, buildings, properties and utilities. Performs a variety of tasks to construct, maintain and repair streets, curbs, gutters, sidewalks, manholes, catch basins, water mains and sewers. Operates equipment in the removal, collection, disposal of solid waste, biosolids, snow, ice and the loading and spreading of various types of materials related to work assignments.
Performs general maintenance, minor repairs, cleanup of equipment. Works to maintain and repair equipment and machinery at the wastewater treatment plant, water treatment plant and pumping stations. Performs other related activities as assigned.
Typical Duties:
Maintenance of this equipment may include such things as lubrication of machinery, adjusting or replacing pump packing, disassembly and reassembly of pumps, replacement of bearings and seals in machinery, replacement or adjustment and balancing of rotating machinery, and other general maintenance as prescribed in equipment manuals.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands and fingers, talk and hear. The employee must be able to squat, stoop, or kneel. The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 90 pounds of material. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Eligibility Requirements:
High school graduate or G.E.D. with four (4) or more years of routine operation and maintenance of dump trucks, backhoes, and related equipment, as well as experience in the repair of machinery and equipment…
