Administrative Services/Accounting Department Lead
The Accounting Department is responsible for the financial activities, general and investment accounting, accounts payable, payroll, travel, budgeting, agency procurement, and both internal and external financial reporting for PERS. The Department works within a framework of internal controls to confirm that all PERS financial transactions are recorded and reported in an accurate and complete manner, operating expenditures and payroll are paid timely and accurately, operating budgets are developed timely and monitored throughout the year, and procurements are made in accordance with state law and associated regulations.
Duties of the Accounting Team Lead include but are not limited to:
- Supervises and leads the accounts payable team in all phases of the daily operations of Accounts Payable to include but not limited to oversight and approval of invoices; verification of accurate and timely payments; handle complex vendor inquiries and disputes; resolution of billing errors; processing of procurement card statements; etc.
- Manages the development and maintenance of financial records, reports, statements, accounting policy, procedures, and fiscal reports related to Accounts Payable for the agency.
- Balances, reconciles, and prepares upload of financial information between the PERS financial system and the state financial system.
- Preparation and submission of the agency annual budget and maintenance/reporting of budgetary expenditures throughout the fiscal year.
- Establishes and maintains positive relationships with vendors, PERS staff, outside stakeholders, consultants, etc.
- Plays an integral part of the financial audit performed by external auditors.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned.
What you'll need to be successful:
The preferred candidate(s) will have proficient skills in MAGIC and Microsoft Excel, organized, detail oriented, able to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a strong understanding of governmental accounting and have proven leadership skills. The candidate must be confident reviewing financial transactions, identifying potential issues, and ensuring all work is completed accurately and in compliance with applicable requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
Typically requires a bachelor's degree and 5-6 years of experience. Agency preferred qualifications:
The preferred candidate(s) for this position must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university and 5-6 years of experience in accounting or auditing and two (2) years of supervisory experience.
