About the Agency:
The Mississippi Department of Finance and Administration is the primary agency responsible for State government financial and administrative operations including employee payroll, vendor payments, employee insurance, construction, maintenance, and protection of State buildings in the Capitol Complex, financial information management systems, management of the State's vehicle fleet, and numerous other related activities.

About the Position:
This position is in the DFA Office of Budget and Accounting. The Accountant II plays a key role in the accounting team, handling a variety of accounts payable responsibilities. This position involves processing payable documents, monitoring contract balances, and ensuring accuracy throughout the process. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with team members to deliver precise and timely financial reporting.

What You'll Need to Be Successful:
To succeed in this role, you'll need strong attention to detail, sound decision-making, and strategic thinking skills. A solid background in accounting is essential, along with the ability to examine, reconcile, and interpret financial data. Consistently apply professional and technical accounting knowledge to analyze and interpret financial information in accordance with general and government accounting practices and principles. Excellent communication skills, the ability to organize and prioritize tasks, and adaptability in a fast-paced environment are key.

You must be capable of continuously performing detailed work while remaining focused and efficient, even in repetitive tasks within established processes.

Preferred Qualifications:

Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree and 2-4 years of experience and/or appropriate certification.
