Job Description

The television production assistant will assist the Director in all aspects of television production and help students learn how to produce, shoot, and edit video. The role includes general programming responsibilities as needed.

Essential Job Functions
  • Assist in recording and editing content material for broadcast.
  • Assist students during video production lab hours.
  • Assist with pre‑ and post‑production projects.
  • Assist in maintaining and protecting equipment.
  • Manage programming/broadcasting logs when necessary.
Other Requirements
  • Willingness to travel for production shoots as needed.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Self‑starter who demonstrates creative and critical thinking and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Maintain flexible work hours, including nights and weekends.
Non‑Essential Functions / Secondary Duties

Performs other duties as necessary or requested.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Supervises student interns, volunteers, and work‑study students.

Physical Demands

Requires a valid driver’s license, ability to drive long distances, lift and carry up to 50 lbs, stoop, bend, kneel, squat, walk, stand, sit, use hands for finger manipulation, maintain eye‑hand coordination, and have clear vision at 20 ft. Requires adequate hearing, cognitive ability, and use of discretion.

Required Qualifications
  • Basic understanding and willingness to learn all aspects of television production including video/digital camera usage, video editing, live streaming, and audio recording.
  • Working knowledge of Final Cut Pro editing software, Pro Tools, and other Apple software.
  • Experience working in pre‑ and post‑television production.
  • Knowledge of professional journalistic ethics, First Amendment rights, and legal issues relevant to the industry.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to work with minimal supervision and in an environment with student and public contact.
Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in communication, media, television production, or related field. Demonstrated excellence in working individually and within production teams. Ability to work well with students to complete projects and meet deadlines.
