The School of Lifelong Learning in the College of Education and Human Development is seeking applications for an Assistant Professor of Interdisciplinary Studies (Tenure-Track).
The School of Lifelong Learning welcomes applicants from disciplines whose research, teaching, service, grant writing, and other scholarly or civic activities demonstrate interdisciplinary engagement with Education, Adult Learning/Non-traditional learners, Career and Workforce Development, or related fields.
The faculty, staff, and students in the School of Lifelong Learning are seeking innovative, ambitious, and creative people who are passionate about adult education and training, strengthening the connections between college coursework and career placement, expanding the digital literacy/21st century workforce competences of nontraditional students, and elevating the role of Jackson State University as a site of positive change in the realm of adult higher education, professional development, and community engagement.
We are seeking collaborative new team members who conduct (and actively engage undergraduate students in conducting) high quality research/scholarship. Additionally, we seek candidates who will be able to redesign and teach rigorous in-person and fully online undergraduate level courses, non-credit seminars, and workshops for JSU students and community members.
Candidates must submit:
Online application, Curriculum Vita (Dissertation title listed), Letter of Application that details the applicant's research and scholarly agenda, teaching interests, commitment to advising, interest in the position and relevant qualifications; A teaching philosophy (that addresses your approach to teaching/learning as well as the philosophy that guides your approach to research and advising);
Unofficial transcripts; and letters of reference (to be provided if the applicant advances to the interview stage).
Examples of Duties
* Teach a 4-4 course load for Fall and Spring sessions.
* Advise non-traditional adult learners, transfer students, etc.
* Actively engage in recruitment and retention, program assessment and evaluations, and program development.
* Research, publish and seek funding.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
* Terminal degree in interdisciplinary fields in Educational Technology, Information Systems (IS), Computational Social Science/Data Science, Organizational Sociology, Industrial-Organizational (I/O) Psychology, Adult Education, Workforce Development, Human Resource Development or a closely related discipline(s), at the time of application (PhD Candidates who have successfully defended their dissertations at the time of application are welcome).
* Must have taken I8 hours of graduate-level research courses.
* Evidence of effective teaching at the college level.
* Must have an active research agenda and/or a clearly defined research plan related to adult education and other interdisciplinary studies on non-traditional students.

Qualifications:
* Demonstrated ability to teach courses at the undergraduate level in areas such as applied artificial intelligence, technology in society, and the future of work.
* Proficient in quantitative research methodologies.
* Experience delivering online instruction to undergraduates and graduate students.
* A record of advising non-traditional adult learners, transfer students, etc. Demonstrate great communication skills and commitment to high quality service to students and the community.
* Academic research (publications and/or grants) in areas:
a) Artificial intelligence at workplace.
b) Adult Education and career transitions.
c) Recruitment and Retention of Non-traditional/Adult Learners.
d) High Impact Practices in teaching and learning.
e) Experience in program redesign and development.
* Experience implementing interventions that support recruitment, retention, and on-time graduation of non-traditional, readmit, and transfer students.
