To enable each child to pursue their education as smoothly and completely as possible in the absence of their regular teacher.

This position reports to the building principal and involves maintaining classroom routines, teaching lessons prepared by the absent teacher, overseeing pupil behavior, and documenting the day’s activities.

• Reports to the building principal upon arrival.
• Reviews with the principal or department head all plans and schedules for the teaching day.
• Maintains established routines and procedures of the assigned classroom.
• Teaches lessons as prepared by the absent teacher.
• Consults with the building principal before initiating any teaching or procedures not specified by the absent teacher.
• Oversees pupil behavior in class, lunch, and recess.
• Reports in writing on the day’s activities at the conclusion of each teaching day.
• Follows all policies, rules, and procedures applicable to regular teachers.
• Performs other related duties as requested.

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.

Days Employed: As needed basis

Range: $85.00 per day / $225.00 per diem (Retired Teacher teaching in area of endorsement) (If a certified teacher is teaching out of area, the salary will be paid at $85.00 per day)
