Graduation Coach (Classified)

Note:
This position is a seven-year grant and is federally funded through the Gaining Early Awareness & Readiness for Undergraduate Programs (GEAR UP) Partnership Grant (CFDA #84.334A) and is subject to audits by the federal government.
- Must hold a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree
- Working knowledge of appropriate strategies for reducing behaviors that put students at risk of not graduating from high school
- Ability to communicate effectively with youth and adults
- Ability to monitor behavior intervention plans and strategies
- Knowledge of and the ability to review data, including that available from the Mississippi Department of Education and from other sources
- An understanding of the multiplicity of social services available in the community to support students at risk of not graduating
- Knowledge of alternative education opportunities (e.g., Credit Recovery, Mississippi Virtual High School, REAP)
Building Principal
Essential Functions- Assist counselors with identifying high school students with a high probability of not graduating
- Assist counselors in identifying potential dropouts for incoming freshmen
- Assist counselors/teachers in updating and monitoring ICAP
- Collaborate with counselors to conduct an analysis that focuses on data for individual students and subgroups such as:
- State Standardized Tests: SATP and MAP
- National Standardized Tests: SAT and ACT
- Local Records: attendance records, behavior records, records of teacher conferences, records of parent conferences, records of student conferences, TST meeting minutes, grade retention records, and records of credits earned
- Assist Attendance Counselors with tracking attendance for potential drop-outs
- Assist counselors with developing and implementing intervention strategies for students with chronic absenteeism to increase the likelihood that these students will stay in school and graduate
- Supports and assists counselors with tracking the progress of individual and subpopulations of students as they progress toward graduation
- Assist with collecting, organizing, and maintaining school and student documentation/evidence aligned with State and Federal Programs (e.g., Title I, School Improvement, Inventory)
- Assist counselors as they provide support to seniors in completing college entrance applications, FAFSA, scholarship applications, etc.
- Performs other duties as requested or assigned
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.

Days Employed: 204 per school year
Beginning hourly rate: $23.00 (Will be paid no more than the maximum annual rate of $51,350)
