Reports To: Principal

EMPLOYMENT BEGINS: As soon as possible

PRIMARY PURPOSE
  • To plan, develop, and implement an effective instructional program that maximizes student achievement for students whose primary language is Spanish.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor's Degree, with appropriate state certification for subject and level assigned.
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS
  • Proficiency in speaking, writing, reading and listening Spanish.
  • Demonstrated cognitive understanding of the subject matter and pedagogical skills in the teaching field.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior.
  • Excellent public relations and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of the change process, organizational development, conflict resolution, and facilitation skills.
  • Highly effective organizational and consensus building skills.
  • Ability to develop and implement short- and long-range instructional plans using effective instructional strategies, knowledge of the discipline, student needs, performance data, and community context.
  • Understanding of various learning styles and competence in delivering instruction appropriate to students' developmental needs.
  • Understanding cultural diversity through providing instruction appropriate to diverse cultures, populations and backgrounds.
  • Ability to develop instructional strategies, technologies, resources and techniques for problem solving and critical thinking.
  • Knowledge of assessment techniques to monitor progress, modify instruction, and set goals.
  • Effective communication techniques, including verbal, nonverbal, and media communication sensitive to student differences and needs.
  • Basic understanding of technology impact in assigned curricular areas.
  • Follow all policies and procedures of MISD.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE
  • No experience required beyond certification from an accredited teacher preparation program.
  • Alternatives to the above qualifications may be considered by the Administration.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
  • Plan, organize, and provide appropriate learning experiences within the assigned area(s).
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to students' maturity, interest, and abilities.
  • Guide the learning process toward achievement of district curriculum goals.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent with physical limitations of the location and needs of students.
  • Assess student accomplishments regularly, provide progress reports as required, and communicate with parents as needed.
  • Identify special needs of students and seek assistance as needed.
  • Collaborate with special education teachers to modify curricula for special education students under IEP guidelines.
  • Develop a student behavior plan consistent with administrative policies.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and regulation.
  • Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Be available to students daily and to parents by appointment.
  • Plan and supervise assignments for teacher aides, volunteers, and student teachers, and provide written evaluation as required.
  • Maintain a program of professional growth to fulfill district requirements and personal expectations.
  • Participate in teacher evaluation process and agree on evaluation results.
  • Attend campus and district meetings to promote communication and decision-making.
  • Attend school-sponsored activities as agreed upon with the principal and faculty.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Aides, student teachers, and student groups as assigned by the administration.
WORKING CONDITIONS

Must communicate well, make multiple decisions regarding students' educational, physical, and emotional well-being, and maintain control under stress.

Stand, walk, and speak for long periods.

Lifting or moving small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.

Work irregular hours and frequent extended periods.
