The Role
- Assists in communicating the school's mission, goals, and objectives to parents, students, and the broader community.
- Collaborates with teachers and staff to ensure awareness of available services that support student academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs.
- Provides individual and group counseling to students and families.
- Helps students, teachers, and parents interpret assessment data and provides actionable recommendations for improvement.
- Emphasizes preventive counseling strategies to support student success and well-being.
- Supports the development and implementation of behavior intervention plans (BIPs) aligned to functional behavior assessments (FBAs) when needed.
- Refers students and families to external agencies when appropriate and coordinates ongoing support services.
- Partners with teachers to implement effective strategies that promote positive student behavior and growth.
- Investigates and reports suspected cases of abuse and/or neglect in accordance with legal and school guidelines.
- Partners with families to improve scholar attendance by proactively communicating about excessive absences or tardiness and implementing targeted support plans to increase daily attendance.
- Promotes college and career readiness by building scholar awareness of career pathways, facilitating goal-setting, and supporting successful transitions to high school and specialized programs.
- Collaborates with interventionists and the Scholar Experience Team to identify and support scholars at risk of becoming chronically absent, implementing early, data-driven interventions.
- Leads and models trauma-informed practices by equipping staff and families with strategies that support scholars impacted by stress, poverty, or adverse experiences.
- Connects scholars and families to wraparound support by coordinating resources, referrals, and services that address academic, social-emotional, and basic needs to support the whole child.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

The Must Haves
- Master's degree in School Counseling
- Valid state teaching license/certification (Tennessee or Mississippi), or a commitment to enroll in an approved alternative certification program upon hire
- Strong understanding of MTSS/RTI frameworks and student support systems (academic, behavioral, and social-emotional)
- Proficiency in using instructional technology, student information systems, and data platforms to monitor and support student progress
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills with students, families, teachers, and external partners
- Openness to receiving and applying frequent, actionable feedback as part of a continuous improvement culture
