The Registrar serves a dual role in providing leadership within the Office of Records and Institutional Research. As the College Chief Data Officer, the Registrar provides strategic leadership for institutional data governance, reporting, analytics, compliance, and decision support. Major duties of the Office of Records include oversight of academic calendaring and catalog maintenance, student registration, student credits, transcripts, and graduation. The Registrar serves as the School Certifying Official (SCO) for students who receive education benefits through the US Department of Veteran’s Affairs (VA).
Relying on well-developed analytical, communication, and technology skills, this individual provides leadership and overall management of office operations; serves as primary liaison to certain college-wide committees; implements and interprets academic policies; leads in process evaluation and improvement; and performs other duties as assigned. The Registrar supervises the Records and Institutional Research team and is responsible for maintaining a high level of ethical and professional standards, and for developing widespread relationships on campus.
This position reports directly to the Provost and Dean of the College.
This position works on-site in Jackson, MS with regular office hours from 8:00am – 4:30pm with a one-hour unpaid lunch break.
Job Duties- Serve as the College’s Chief Data Officer and lead institutional data governance and data quality initiatives.
- Serve as the College’s chief FERPA officer.
- Support students and faculty in academic processes.
- Provide management and strategic direction of the Office of Records and Institutional Research.
- Serve on faculty and college-wide committees as assigned.

- Provide leadership and oversight for the development, implementation, and management of activities and systems related to academic records, student registration, academic advising and scheduling, and the college catalogs.
- Oversee the curriculum and academic standards and policies of the College, ensuring that faculty legislation on curriculum and academic policies and regulations are implemented fairly and in a timely and consistent manner; graduation requirements are interpreted and warranted exceptions re made carefully; and academic regulations are administered intelligently.
- Oversee the development of each term’s course offerings, including confirming faculty qualification and course loads, ensuring offerings meet student needs, and utilize learning spaces effectively.
- Coordinate exchange programs and other inter-institutional academic relationships in coordination with the Provost.
- Oversee editing and production of the college’s catalogs in coordination with the Director of Communications.
- Monitor NCAA academic eligibility in consultation with the Athletics Director.
- Work with the Institutional Research Analyst to conduct analyses to support college planning, enrollment management, program review and assessment, summarizing interpretations from data and presenting findings in a coherent, comprehensive format.
- Assist in accreditation efforts through data analysis, including editing/writing responses, and project planning for Southern Association for Colleges and Schools (SACSCOC).
- Master’s degree or an equivalent mix of education and experience.
- Minimum of five or more years in data management or a related field.
- Previous experience in higher education a plus.
- Proven experience in creating queries to gather data. (Experience with SQL and/or SAP Business Objects a plus.)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and software to support Registrar functions and Institutional Research functions, such as Ellucian Colleague and statistical analysis software.
