Senior Project Engineer – Water & Wastewater

Waggoner Engineering, Inc. is hiring a Senior Project Engineer – Water & Wastewater for our Jackson, MS office. The focus of this position is providing planning, design and technical assistance to the Discipline Manager and other members of the design team in delivering projects within budgetary and time constraints.
Primary Responsibilities- Perform engineering analyses and evaluations (primarily computer‑based) in support of planning and design of civil works projects, including:
- Water distribution system and sanitary sewer collection system hydraulic modeling
- Pump station modeling and analysis for well pumps, sewer lift stations, and transmission pumping stations
- Analysis and evaluation of treatment options for potable water and wastewater plants
- Analysis and evaluation of water and sewer rate structures
- Planning, assessments and recommendations related to the need for public water and wastewater facilities
- Perform analysis and design of water distribution systems, water supply and treatment components, sanitary sewer systems and components; transmission, treatment and disposal systems; POTWs and other projects
- Conduct assessment and evaluation of existing system conditions and develop recommended remedial measures
- Maintain and document written and verbal communications with clients throughout the development and completion of projects
- Conduct project status reviews with the project manager and team members, checking accuracy of work and monitoring timeliness of completion
- Attend project‑management meetings
- Assist Project Managers with administrative duties concerning completion of assigned projects, including review of schedules, scopes and budgets
- Assist Project Manager in preparation of engineering studies and reports
- Provide technical guidance and training to members of the project team
- Prepare project design using sound engineering principles, engineering software and tools
- Assist in preparation of contract documents and technical specifications
- Assist Project Manager in assuring quality‑control procedures are performed
- Maintain responsibility for the accuracy of each segment of the work and for final checking of the work
- Maintain responsibility for adherence to applicable codes
- Provide leadership, guidance and mentoring to engineering staff
- Civil Engineering degree
- License as a Professional Engineer (PE) in Mississippi required; licensure as a PE or ability to obtain within six months in contiguous states desirable
- Minimum of eight (8) years of Water/Wastewater‑related design experience and at least five years of project‑management experience
- Demonstrated experience in Water and Wastewater field, including design of treatment facilities, collection systems, booster and pump stations, water, reclaimed water and wastewater master plans
- Experience with construction‑related engineering services and ability to review shop drawings, RFIs and issue engineer directives
- Proficiency in design using AutoCAD and Civil 3D; advanced knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
- Knowledge of design, online reports and databases preferred
- Understanding of and experience with sustainability principles in public infrastructure
- Superior communication skills and in‑depth knowledge of company products and operations
