Job Description
The MEP Specialist 2 / Lead Electrical Superintendent oversees electrical construction activities for large-scale data center projects across multiple U.S. locations. This role focuses on switch gear, UPS systems, and power distribution, while leading on-site teams, driving schedule adherence, enforcing safety and quality standards, and using construction technology platforms to manage documentation and communication. The position requires frequent travel between data center project sites and offers a long-term contract with full benefits and the potential for extension or permanent hire.
Responsibilities
* Fully understand the project scope, schedule, and overall objectives for each data center site.
* Assist in maintaining and updating the project schedule daily using Touchplan or similar tools.
* Collaborate with the Project Scheduler and Project Manager to develop and manage progress schedules, including two-week look-ahead schedules.
* Prepare and distribute accurate and timely daily logs using Procore.
* Assist in coordinating and scheduling all required inspections with appropriate parties.
* Prepare agendas and supporting materials for regular construction and coordination meetings.
* Enforce site safety protocols, security procedures, and visitor access controls at all times.
* Monitor and enforce quality standards and workmanship of all electrical and MEP installations and finished products.
* Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive Site Utilization Plan for each project location.
* Maintain a detailed phone log and other communication records as required.
* Prepare pre-punch list items and assist in driving project closeout activities.
* Work with the Project Site Engineer to load and maintain all relevant project information and documentation in Procore.
* Provide on-site safety training for team members and enforce safety compliance throughout the project site.
* Lead and conduct weekly "toolbox talks" or safety meetings to reinforce safe work practices.
* Secure and manage any required hot work permits for project activities.
* Lead and supervise on-site teams and subcontractors, ensuring coordination across electrical, mechanical, and MEP scopes.
* Support troubleshooting efforts for electrical and MEP issues during construction and commissioning phases.
* Collaborate with commissioning teams to support testing and startup of data center electrical and mechanical systems.
* Read and interpret blueprints, schedules, and technical documents to guide field installation and sequencing.
* Travel between multiple data center project locations as needed to provide on-site leadership and oversight.
Essential Skills
* 7-10 years of experience in electrical construction, commercial construction, or related fields.
* Background in electrical work or electrical construction (preferred but strongly relevant).
* Experience as a site supervisor, superintendent, or in a construction management role.
* Very strong computer skills, including proficiency with construction management software.
* Proficiency with Procore for documentation, daily logs, and project information management.
* Ability to read and interpret project schedules and apply them to daily field operations.
* Strong communication skills for coordinating with project teams, subcontractors, and stakeholders.
* Experience leading teams in a construction or data center environment.
* Strong safety attitude and familiarity with OSHA principles and jobsite safety practices.
* Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical documents.
* Experience in subcontractor management and construction supervision.
* Experience with switch gear, power distribution, and UPS systems in a construction environment.
Additional
Skills & Qualifications
* Experience working on data center projects, including CRAH units, UPS systems, and commissioning activities.
* MEP or MEP engineering experience, including exposure to HVAC and mechanical systems.
* Familiarity with data center infrastructure, including power distribution, substation interfaces, and mechanical systems.
* Experience with project management practices and tools in a construction setting.
* Troubleshooting skills for electrical and mechanical systems during installation and commissioning.
* Experience with commercial construction projects involving complex MEP systems.
* Mechanical and substation experience is beneficial.
* Willingness to travel frequently between multiple project locations is helpful and highly valued.
* Strong organizational skills to manage logs, permits, site utilization plans, and inspection schedules.
Work Environment
This is an on-site field-based role supporting large data center construction projects in Northern Virginia, Dallas (TX), Atlanta (GA), Las Vegas (NV), Chicago (IL), and locations in Mississippi.
