About the Agency

The Department of Revenue is the primary agency for collecting tax revenues that support state and local governments in Mississippi. For inquiries regarding this position, you can contact De’Andria Trunnell nnell.gov.

Responsibilities
  • Review and process sales tax returns, payments, or other documents and information to verify accuracy and/or correct errors.
  • Manually process sales tax returns.
  • Assist taxpayers with payments, returns, applications, and general sales tax information.
  • Review reports for discrepancies.
  • Process sales tax refund requests.

    Perform entry-level clerical accounting functions.
  • Provide support as an administrative assistant.
  • Answer calls in a polite and professional manner to assist customers.
  • Other tasks as assigned.
What you'll need to be Successful

The ability to learn the complexities of tax administration as indicated by the task, by making wise, informed decisions and correctly executing tax policies and procedures, which promote taxpayer compliance and tax revenue collection in accordance with the State's tax statutes. Be proficient in using Microsoft Word, Excel, and other computer software. Ability to communicate with taxpayers and tax professionals in verbal and written form.

Ability to multitask and manage assigned tasks.

Preferred Qualifications

Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree or High School Diploma or high school equivalency and 4 years of experience.
