About the Agency: The Mississippi Department of Finance and Administration is the primary agency responsible for State government financial and administrative operations including employee payroll, vendor payments, employee insurance, construction, maintenance, and protection of State buildings in the Capitol Complex, financial information management systems, management of the State's vehicle fleet, and numerous other related activities.

About the Position: The Office of Financial Reporting (OFR) is responsible for financial reporting at the statewide level. This department prepares The State of Mississippi's Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR), the Annual Report of Budgetary Basis Expenditures, compiles federal grant information for inclusion in the Single Audit, and assists state agencies in reporting in compliance with the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) as well as Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

This position will perform advanced accounting functions while assisting in the preparation of the ACFR, staying up to date with and being able to interpret and apply GASB and GAAP standards, serving as a subject matter expert and providing technical assistance to internal and external stakeholders, preparing, analyzing and reviewing reports, making necessary adjustments, performing reconciliations, and collaborating with others in the department.

you’ll need to be Successful:

Successful candidates will have advanced accounting knowledge including the understanding of normal balance of accounts (assets, liabilities, fund balance, revenue, & expenditure), double entry accounting, and interpretation and application of accounting regulations. They should have strong technical and analytical problem‑solving skills, be self‑motivated, organized, detail oriented, able to create and meet timelines, set priorities, and be able to work well with others and collaborate for group success.

Experience in any of the following areas is desirable: accounting for assets, grants, leases, transfers, due to/from, retirement plans, or preparation of financial statements.

Preferred Qualifications:

Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree and 4-5 years of experience and/or appropriate certification. Agency preferred qualifications: experience with accounting at the fund level, creation of fund level GAAP packets, creation of financial reports, review of financial statements. Proficient to expert level experience in MAGIC preferred. CPA or CPA track preferred.

Full‑time employees receive paid time off for personal needs and for sick leave. Leave begins accruing after one month of employment and may be used as it is accrued. Employees earn approximately 18 days of personal leave annually and 12 days of sick leave annually.
