Senior Planner

responsibilities

• to perform advanced level professional planning work in current or advanced planning; to provide technical and functional supervision to lower level professional planners
• assume responsibility for a major of aspect of planning such as neighborhood, downtown or general land use; oversee development of comprehensive plans for assigned area of responsibility
• conduct and supervise planning studies in the community; gather data for evaluating current and advance planning projects
• conduct public meetings with neighborhood groups to develop civilian input
• collect, analyze and present data in written, graphic or oral forms to various boards, commissions and committees
• perfrom research, planning and technical analysis for complex planning projects; prepare alternative land use plans for selected areas within the city
• confer with engineers, developers, architects, a variety of agencies, neighborhood and community groups in acquiring infromation and coordinating planning and zoning matters; provide information regarding city development, projects, programs and requirements
• assign and review the work of professional and technical plannign staff; assign work activities, projects and programs; review and evaluate work products; provide staff training.
• provide staff support to a variety of boards, commissions and committees; may serve as secretary to an assigned board or commission; present information on planning projects an realted issues.
• review developmental proposals and work with developers to reach agreement on acceptable site plans; review various developmental applications for compliance with appropriate regulations and policies; prepare reports of recommendations

• six years of responsible professional urban or regional planning experience

a master's degree from an accurated college or unversity with major course work in planning, urban affairs, or a related field
