About the RoleThe Vice President of Government Affairs will work closely with the President & CEO and EVP of Political Affairs to develop and advance MSBA’s public policy priorities. This individual will serve as a trusted advisor on legislative and regulatory matters, cultivate relationships with policymakers and agency leaders, and represent the interests of Mississippi’s business community before governmental and stakeholder organizations.
As a member of the MSBA Leadership Team, this position will contribute to organizational strategy, advocacy planning, and the long‑term success of the Alliance and its members.
Key Responsibilities- Lead MSBA’s legislative and regulatory advocacy efforts
- Monitor and analyze legislative, regulatory, and policy developments impacting employers and industry
- Represent MSBA before legislators, state agencies, boards, commissions, and stakeholder organizations
- Develop policy recommendations, issue briefs, legislative summaries, and advocacy materials
- Build and maintain strong relationships with elected officials, agency leadership, and business stakeholders
- Support the development and execution of MSBA’s legislative agenda
- Provide leadership and support for government affairs councils, committees, and coalitions
- Assist with Political Action Committee administration and reporting activities
- Deliver timely updates and strategic recommendations to organizational leadership, boards, councils, and members
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred
- Minimum of 8–10 years of experience in government affairs, public policy, legislative affairs, lobbying, or a related field
- Extensive knowledge of the Mississippi legislative and regulatory process
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships with policymakers and stakeholders
- Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills
- Experience representing an organization before elected officials, government agencies, boards, or commissions
- Experience with in a trade association, chamber of commerce, advocacy organization, or governmental entity is preferred
The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker, skilled relationship builder, and credible advocate with a deep understanding of Mississippi’s public policy landscape. This individual should have the leadership presence, judgment, and communication skills necessary to represent MSBA effectively with elected officials, agency leaders, members, and stakeholders across the state.
The ideal candidate is equally comfortable discussing complex policy issues, building coalitions, advising executive leadership, and serving as a visible representative of the organization throughout Mississippi.
