Emergency Management is a comprehensive approach for administering and governing efforts in mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery.

This is a time limited position (NS-14). The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) is recruiting for a Non-State Service and Time-Limited position as a Grants Management Specialist within the Office of Mitigation located in Byram, MS. This position assists communities in developing project applications that enhance their resilience to all hazards and promote community-wide resiliency. It ensures that mitigation project applications consider environmental requirements at the earliest possible stage.

  • Compliance and oversight of grant applications for Hazard Mitigation Grant Assistance programs.
  • Provides information and technical assistance to eligible sub-recipients, including education and engagement with other state agencies, federally recognized tribal governments, and local communities.
  • Responsible for monitoring and overseeing procurement, conducting compliance reviews, conducting site inspections, and submitting eligible applications to the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
  • Receiving, reviewing, analyzing, reconciling, and processing financial documents to ensure accuracy and compliance with the federal awarding agency's rules and regulations.
  • This position continuously researches the latest guidance to ensure that potential projects meet all requirements.

Please note this position is with the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) and ALL MEMA’s positions can be called back to work outside the standard work schedule. A drug screen and background check may be required for hires and promotions. Additionally, a credit check may be conducted for individuals responsible for financial, human resources, and information technology matters.

  • Must have knowledge of federal grants and federal regulations;
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail;
  • Sound judgment and efficient problem-solving skills;
  • Organized and have excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Able to work independently and under pressure;
  • Excellent computer skills;
  • Proficient in Excel.

Preferred Qualifications:

Typically requires a bachelor’s degree OR graduation from high school or equivalent and 0-2 years of experience.
