The Medical Assistant works under the supervision of the Physician responsible for patient care management. They provide patient care in a caring and professional manner and assist front office personnel as directed by the Practice/Office Manager.
ResponsibilitiesThe Medical Assistant performs patient care under physician supervision, supports front desk/office operations as directed, and participates in patient flow and care coordination as assigned by the Practice/Office Manager.
Qualifications- Education: High school graduate or equivalent required. Graduate from a Medical Assistant program with recognized certification.
- License: N/A
- Certifications: CMA (Certified Medical Assistant) from one of the following certifying bodies: AAMA, NAHP, AMT, MedCA, NHA, NCCT, NIHP; or RMA from AMT, AAH, or NAHP. Must maintain certification according to the certifying organization’s standards.
- Additional Certification Requirements: BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) certification must be completed upon hire and/or transfer; de-escalation training must be completed by the end of position orientation (90 days) with the appropriate level of de-escalation training.
- Experience: Minimum of one (1) year experience as a Medical Assistant is preferred.
Reports to: Manager, under the direction of the Physician responsible for patient care management.
Supervises: None
Physical Demands: Work is moderately active; requires sitting with frequent movement around the office and facility, and occasional travel to another facility within the SRHS service area. May involve lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling objects, including the human body, of negligible to moderate force. Repetitive motions of wrists, hands, and fingers when using standard office equipment.
Environmental/Health Considerations: Exposure to body fluids, sputum, and tissues with potential infectious disease risk. Visual and auditory demands include the ability to perceive sounds at normal speaking levels and to focus visually on screens and printed material.
Psychological/Mental Demands: Requires keen mental faculties, assessment and decision-making abilities, and strong communication skills. Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and manage multiple tasks. Requires emotional stability and professional collaboration with SRHS and partner organizations.
Special Demands: Superior customer service, professional etiquette, and proficiency with computer/office technology, MS Outlook and Word.
Additional NotesMust be able to demonstrate appropriate clinical judgment and provide care for patients of all ages.
