Position Overview:
The Telemetry RN provides care to hematology/oncology and medical-telemetry patients in a high-acuity acute care setting. This unit offers a strong learning environment, including training in chemotherapy administration for nurses without prior chemo experience.

Unit Details:

• 32-bed Med/Tele Oncology unit

• Typical nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:5, occasionally 1:6 (adjusted for higher acuity patients)

• Every patient is on telemetry

• Central monitoring station supports all units; 3 South has monitors at the nurses’ station

Schedule & Requirements:

• 12-hour day shifts (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)

• Weekend Requirement:
  Every other weekend or 2 weekends per month (may increase based on unit needs)

• Holiday Requirement:
  Rotates with core staff

• No call or standby requirements

• Floating required within skillset to all Med-Surg units

Responsibilities:

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to hem/onc and telemetry patients

• Monitor cardiac rhythms and respond to telemetry alerts

• Administer chemotherapy (training provided if needed)

• Manage lines, chest tubes, and high-acuity patient needs

• Initiate and manage select drips per protocol (e.g., heparin; amiodarone initiation prior to transfer)

• Document patient care accurately using EPIC

Experience Requirements:

• Minimum of 2 years of RN experience

• At least 1 year in first RN role required

• Level I Trauma or very large hospital experience required

• Experience with high-acuity medical-surgical patients

• Hematology/Oncology and chemotherapy experience preferred but not required

• EPIC charting experience required

• Prior travel experience with extensions preferred

Required Certifications:

• BLS Certification

• ACLS required for Charge RNs only

Education & Licensure:

• Active RN license required (license must be submitted; facility willing to wait)

• BSN not required

• Oncology certification not required

Additional Clinical Support:

• Respiratory Therapy available for CPAP/BiPAP and high-flow support

• Nurse Managers onsite weekdays;
  House Supervisor coverage evenings and weekends

• Charge nurses carry light assignments and full assignments as needed
