Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional
The Medical Support Assistant (MSA) in the Inpatient Department of the G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center provides medical administrative support to one or more wards and is an integral member of the team by effectively carrying out day-to-day administrative operations of the ward. The primary duties of the MSA may include but are not limited to:
* Schedules, cancels, and reschedules patient appointments and/or consults.
* Interprets, and verifies provider orders in accordance with VHA national scheduling guidelines.
* Monitors the electronic wait list and enters no show information when necessary.
* Ensures encounter forms are completed in order to obtain appropriate workload credit.
* Maintains electronic entries associated with inpatient care, and verifies and/or updates demographic and insurance information.
* Processes emergency and non-emergency transfers to other VA facilities or private hospitals.
* Performs basic eligibility, co-pays and preauthorization requirements for specific coverage.
* Synchronizes the daily activities of the ward with the charge nurse.
* Receives telephone calls for the unit, records, and relays messages to appropriate staff.
* Coordinates with medical clinics for required tests, pre-operative procedures, therapies, and scheduled appointments.
* Provides advisory and technical assistance to patients, administrative staff, and professional staff regarding medical care.
* Receives and handles concerns ensuring that quality service is rendered in a timely, competent, and caring manner.
Work Schedule:
Typically, Sunday-Saturday, 7:30 a.m.
- 4:00 p.m., 3:30 p.m.
- Midnight, or 11:30 p.m.
- 8:00 a.m., with rotating weekends and holidays. Tour of Duty will be discussed during interview and is subject to change based on agency needs.

Pay:
Competitive salary and regular salary increases.
Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year)
Parental Leave:
After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
Child Care Subsidy:
After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
Retirement:
Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA
Insurance:
Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)
