Job SummaryTo process, embed, cut, and stain human tissue. Staining includes routine and special stains. This job profile may require call subject to the department's discretion.
Education and Experience- Associate's or Bachelor's degree with one year of experience in histopathology.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree with one year of experience in histopathology.
- Ability to properly orient, embed, and cut tissue using microtome and cryostat.
- Understanding of tissue processing.
- Verbal and written communication skills.
- Interpersonal skills to effectively interact with team members.
- Computer and related software application skills.
- Ability to maintain accurate records.
- Orients and embeds tissue in paraffin according to standardized methods.
- Freezes, orients, embeds, and cuts fresh tissue.
- Uses microtome and/or cryostat to cut tissue specimens to exacting measures of acceptability.
- Files cassettes.
- Performs routine and special stains.
- Labels and distributes slides to pathologists.
- Files slides.
- Performs and documents equipment maintenance and quality control measures.
- Ensures compliance with safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
Requires occasional handling or working with potentially dangerous equipment; frequent exposure to biohazardous conditions such as risk of radiation exposure, blood‑borne pathogens, fumes or airborne particles, and/or toxic or caustic chemicals. May involve occasional work beyond regular hours, occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds, and other actions as needed for the role.
