As a member of the Geology and Geophysics research group at NRL, your role will center on the expert management of critical bathymetry data. You will be responsible for the entire data lifecycle, from sourcing and curation to formatting diverse geophysical datasets. A core function of this position is proficient interaction with the DBDB‑V database, including both data ingestion and the precise extraction of information.

A primary focus of this role is the expert handling of the DBDB‑V database, which involves formatting and ingesting various data types into the system. Crucially, you will be required to efficiently extract and manipulate information from the database for analysis, reporting, and integration with NRL modeling frameworks.

You will also use scripting languages like Python or C++ to automate data transformation, create and maintain metadata, and document all processes to ensure transparency and reproducibility.

What you will need:

  • Minimum of 3 years with PhD
  • PhD in data science, computer science, geospatial information systems, or a related field
  • Direct experience with DBDB‑V is required
  • Proficiency in data management tools (e.g., SQL, Excel, R, and/or Python for data manipulation)
