Description
The Department of Public Safety at Jackson State University is accepting applications for its Investigator position.
Examples of Duties
  • Investigator responsible for assisting. in the apprehension of all suspects or offenders.
  • Cooperate and assist other units within the department.
  • Act as a liaison officer between this Department and other police departments and law enforcement agencies.
  • Be familiar with the law and departmental procedures and policies surrounding the handling of suspect, crime scene control, care of prisoners, and presentation of evidence in court.
  • Analyze completed police reports to determine what additional information and investigative work is needed.
  • Prepare charges or response to charges or information in court cases according to procedures.
  • Investigate promptly and diligently all crimes assigned.
  • Follow up all cases until there is a final disposition or the case is declared inactive.
  • Perform all other duties assigned or directed by the Director of Public Safety.
Typical Qualifications
  • Applicant must have a High School Diploma or GED, plus two years of college or with at least 60 college hours toward a degree.
  • Applicant must demonstrate oral and written communication skills and the potential to exhibit control in crisis situations.
  • Applicant must have five (5) years of Law Enforcement Experience.
  • Applicant must have a valid MS driver's license and he able to pass a criminal history check (local and NCIC).
  • BLEOST (Board Law Enforcement of Standards & Training) certification is required.
  • Applicant should display his/her ability to work well with all officers with no personal conflicts and have no serious disciplinary actions on file.
