Job SummaryRoutinely makes decisions that affect the entire hospital regarding air conditioning, heating, and electrical distribution. Is responsible for operating all power plant equipment at optimum efficiency with little or no downtime except for extreme conditions. Performs minor maintenance functions to keep the plant operational. Performs all other duties as assigned.
Job Responsibilities- Performs daily system/equipment rounds through subbasement, penthouses, and equipment rooms throughout the hospital to document status, performs repairs as abilities allow and reports issues and concerns to supervisor and plant operator (20%).
- Serves as a relief Power Plant Operator as needed. Operates steam generation, chilled water, and co-generation systems at optimum efficiency, knowing how to transfer to a backup system in emergencies with little or no disruption of power. Operates and monitors energy management computer and related systems. Familiar with switchgears for electrical distribution in Power Plant. Performs preventive maintenance tasks such as lubrication, water testing, cleaning, painting, minor adjustments (20%).
- Exhibits a positive, cheerful attitude toward customers. Uses proper telephone procedures courteously. Anticipates and/or responds to customer needs, takes ownership of problems, is a team player, adheres to established dress code, and is prompt and reliable (20%).
- Keeps noise level in public and patient areas low. Consistently leads by example and supports the organization and department. Engages in inter‑disciplinary problem solving and performs other activities as necessary. Informs manager of activity status and inability to meet expectations (20%).
- Proper use of assigned equipment, proper notification of problems, appropriate use of supplies, reports to work at designated time, completes activities within assigned time frames, exhibits ability to prioritize activities (10%).
- Attends required staff meetings and in‑services, shares information with others when requested, seeks clarification and additional knowledge, identifies self‑learning needs, and assists in orientation of others when requested (10%).
