Responsibility Summary

Supervising Tax Department Unit Managers in the Status Unit, the Employer Accounts Unit, and the Remittance Processing (RPS) Unit. Responsible for the successful operation and ensuring that the achievement of these unit's goals, standards, acceptable levels of performance, measures, and metrics as set forth by the U.S. Department of Labor or Agency internal policies and procedures are met or exceeded. Assess, analyze, and identify deficiencies in current policies, procedures, and system processes.

Work collaboratively with other departmental managers and supervisors to provide a seamless customer experience. Review the development, maintenance, and revision of staff training manuals that provide consistent interpretation and application of MDES laws and regulations. Act as a liaison assistant to the Tax Department Chief for MDES with local, state, and federal agencies, U. S. DOL, NASWA, and the employer community.

Attend and participate in Regional and National meetings both in person and remotely regarding tax specific topics. Lead and supervise the Status Unit and Employer Accounts/RPS management team. Foster a sense of community, provide guidance and expectations, and encourage open communication between multiple levels of management. Hold management of assigned units accountable for the achievement of U.S. DOL and MDES established performance metrics in their respective areas.

Ensure that management of assigned units promptly execute hiring paperwork, conduct performance assessments, coaching, and progressive discipline with appropriate documentation and escalation to upper management. Review, conduct, and elevate performance assessments, coaching and progressive discipline. Perform other duties as assigned by the Tax Chief or other Office of ReEmployment Assistance Management. Some travel is required. Applicants must have a valid driver's license and pass an extensive background check.

Must be available to work flexible hours including some nights and weekends.

What you’ll need to be Successful

Extensive demonstrative knowledge of the UI tax program and the UI tax system. Knowledge of state UI laws, regulations, written policies, and departmental procedures. Knowledge of IRS laws regarding entity types and payroll requirements. Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills. Ability to read, comprehend, and explain complex matters. Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, effective communication skills, and strong attention to detail.

Outstanding leadership and personnel management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Typically requires a Bachelor’s Degree and 3-5 years of experience. Hiring agency's preferred qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited 4-year college or university in business, finance, accounting, auditing, management or other related field and four (4) years of experience related to the described job duties. One (1) year of supervisory experience which must include personnel management.
