Summary

The Assistant Superintendent serves as a senior-level district administrator under the direct supervision of the Superintendent. The position assists with the leadership, administration, and daily operation of the school district and provides oversight in areas assigned by the Superintendent. The Assistant Superintendent works collaboratively with district and school administrators to implement Board policies, meet federal and state requirements, support effective school operations, and advance the district's strategic priorities.

The Assistant Superintendent may act on behalf of the Superintendent when authorized.

Qualifications & Duties
  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in educational leadership, administration, supervision, or a related field. (Doctoral degree preferred)
  • Valid Mississippi educator license with the appropriate administrative endorsement (486).
  • Minimum of five years of successful experience in education. (Experience as a principal or district-level administrator preferred)
  • Successful administrative or supervisory experience at the school or district level.
  • Knowledge of school district administration, personnel management, school operations, and applicable education laws.
  • Successful completion of all required background checks.
  • Experience with budgeting, personnel administration, strategic planning, school safety, and operational management (Preferred).
  • Assist the Superintendent with the leadership and administration of the district and implementation of its mission, strategic plan, annual goals, Board priorities, policies, and procedures.
  • Provide oversight for assigned schools, departments, programs, and initiatives; monitor performance and recommend improvements based on data and identified needs.
  • Supervise, support, and evaluate assigned administrators and personnel while promoting accountability, collaboration, and effective communication across the district.
  • Serve as the Superintendent's designee and assume district leadership responsibilities when authorized.
  • Assist with recruiting, interviewing, recommending, assigning, developing, evaluating, and retaining qualified personnel.
  • Ensure consistent administration of personnel policies, contracts, licensure requirements, employment laws, and district procedures.
  • Guide administrators in addressing employee performance concerns, corrective action, documentation, improvement plans, grievances, and other personnel matters.
  • Promote professional conduct, confidentiality, positive employee relations, leadership development, and succession planning.
  • Work with principals and district leaders to strengthen instruction, student services, school culture, safety, and operational effectiveness.
  • Use student achievement, attendance, discipline, staffing, and operational data to monitor programs, identify needs, and coordinate district support.
  • Oversee assigned operational areas, which may include transportation, maintenance, facilities, safety, security, child nutrition, human resources, student services, public relations, or other departments.
  • Assist with emergency planning, crisis response, continuity of operations, and resolution of significant student, parent, employee, and community concerns.
  • Monitor compliance with federal and state laws, Mississippi Department of Education requirements, Board policies, audits, contracts, and district procedures.
  • Assist with developing and monitoring budgets for assigned areas and ensure expenditures are properly documented and aligned with district priorities.
  • Evaluate staffing, facilities, equipment, and program needs and recommend the efficient, safe, and responsible use of district resources.
  • Coordinate complaints, investigations, reports, and corrective actions assigned by the Superintendent.
  • Prepare reports, recommendations, presentations, and supporting materials for the Superintendent and Board of Education and attend official meetings as required.
  • Keep the Superintendent informed of significant programs, personnel matters, operational conditions, risks, and concerns.
  • Represent the district professionally and build productive relationships with employees, families, students, community partners, public agencies, and other stakeholders.
  • Communicate district information clearly and accurately while maintaining confidentiality of personnel, student, legal, and other protected matters.
  • Provide effective organizational and instructional leadership and manage multiple priorities, departments, and projects.
  • Analyze information, solve problems, and make sound, timely, ethical, and legally compliant decisions.
  • Supervise, support, develop, and evaluate employees effectively.
