Job Description
The Machine Technician 1 is responsible for manufacturing product by operating and maintaining equipment and processes that provide optimum customer service. This position is reserved for entry‑level Machine Technicians and focuses on enhancing safety, quality and productivity while assisting the Facilitator as needed. The role requires knowledge of and implementation of all area‑specific compliance issues, including safety, quality, environmental, and MT plant policies, and involves participation in continuous improvement projects and monthly preventive maintenance with the maintenance team.
Dutiesand Responsibilities
- Adhere to all safety requirements in the work area.
- Housekeeping – follow all housekeeping policies and schedules.
- Understand and demonstrate how to use all gauges in the cell.
- Understand tolerances and how to make offsets on the machine to stay in spec.
- Utilize quality tools in the cell such as SPC and OEE.
- Operate a minimum of one machine in the department efficiently (85% or better).
- Perform setup and changeovers following procedures in a timely manner.
- Troubleshoot equipment, including automated operations, controls and sensors.
- Assist maintenance with preventative maintenance responsibilities and update schedules.
- Complete routine equipment and product inspections and required documentation.
- Troubleshoot and perform minor equipment repairs.
- Provide feedback to maintenance and supervisor as needed.
- Inform supervisor or Department Manager about processes or equipment requiring attention.
- Recommend and participate in continuous improvement projects to improve processes, productivity and quality, especially those related to corrective actions.
- Complete other duties as assigned, including working other shifts as necessary.
- Adhere to 5S in the department.
Skills and Abilities
- Good written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to interpret technical data, including drawings and OMS.
- Proficient in the use of common inspection and test equipment.
- Excellent problem‑solving and analytical skills.
- High School or GED diploma required.
- Technical certification in Mechanical, Electrical, or Automation preferred.
- Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in maintenance, mechanical or technical field at an MT or similar employer.
- Standing work: up to 6+ hours per day.
- Sitting: occasional overhead tasks.
- Load, drive and unload forklift: up to 1 hour per day.
- Manually handle items: up to 2 hours per day.
- Walk: up to 1–2 hours per day.
- Bend/Twist: as required to pick up manually handled items; turn from side to side to view load.
- Push / Pull: as required to pick up boxes of parts or finished goods.
- Climb (stairs, ladders): occasionally to access top level of facility.
- Reach: as required to assemble, inspect or pack product.
- Lift: to place frames on fixtures or move product.
- Carry: grasp / grip boxes or forklift controls repeatedly.
- Repetitive motions: load and unload boxes of products and parts.
- Fast work speed: to keep production lines moving.
- Filing, finger and keyboard use: occasional.
- Visual and auditory tasks: depth perception, color vision, hearing required for accurate counts and communication within the cell.
- Environmental conditions:
able to work in various temperatures.
