Job Summary
:
Provides care in the ambulatory setting directed toward meeting both the psychosocial and physical needs of the patient. Is a resource person and teacher. Care given reflects initiative and responsibility indicative of professional expectations. Utilizes initiative, strives to maintain steady level of productivity. Is a self‑starter? Is compatible and supportive, a team player. Communication on behalf of the patient reflects the mission, ethics and goals of the Hospital as well as the focus statement of the department.
Maintains regulatory agency requirements, nursing and Hospital policies, procedures and standards.
- Coordinates and gives care to the patient reflecting flexibility in rules and regulations as indicated by individual patient needs.
- Makes decisions reflecting knowledge of facts, knowledge of diseases/surgical conditions, care required and good judgement.
- Performs reflecting knowledge in all areas of care specific to the Outpatient Surgery Department, i.e., GI, OR, Chemotherapy, conscious sedation and expected outcomes.
- Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.
- Organizes and manages nursing activities reflecting due consideration for patients’ needs and the needs of Unit and staff. Flexibility is maintained.
- Utilizes initiative, strives to maintain steady level of productivity; self‑starter, compatible and supportive; a team player.
- Demonstrates knowledge of medications and IV fluids and their correct administration based on age of the patient and patient’s clinical condition.
- Demonstrates ability to perform a head‑to‑toe preoperative assessment on all patients and reassesses as needed postoperatively. This includes pediatric, geriatric and the general patient population. Is able to identify physical symptoms and changes and takes appropriate action in a timely manner.
- Demonstrates ability to formulate an individualized plan of care as indicated and evaluates for effectiveness of learning; family is included in teaching as appropriate, from pre‑op to discharge.
- Communicates appropriately and clearly to co‑workers and physicians.
- Consults other departments as needed and as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient’s needs.
- Demonstrates an ability to assist physicians both in the OPS/GI and other departments.
- Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
- Identifies and addresses psychosocial needs of patients and family.
- Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Practices good guest relation. Provides patient and family with explanation and verbal reassurance consistently.
- Maintains a good working relationship and effective communication both within the department and with other departments for the benefit of the patient.
- Carries out medical and surgical asepsis during treatments and special procedures.
- Maintains an environment that provides the patient and family with feelings of safety and security.
- Adheres to dress code; appearance is neat and clean.
- Completes annual educational requirements. Maintains regulatory requirements; nursing and facility policy, procedures and standards.
- Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated time.
- Keeps identification while on duty, uses computerized punch time system correctly.
- Ensures confidentiality of patient’s records.
- Actively participates in Department’s Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) activities.
- Attends and participates in at least 8 staff meetings per year.
- Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the facility as well as the focus statement of the Department.
- Must possess and maintain current Registered Nurse licensure to practice in Oklahoma.
- Current BLS certification required; must be obtained during initial orientation if not current upon hire.
- Current ALS and PALS certification preferred. Certification could be obtained during the first year of employment if not current upon hire.
- Previous work history that demonstrates steady attendance and punctuality is required.
- Ability to read and communicate effectively in English. Additional languages preferred.
- Basic computer knowledge.
