Position TitleLicensed Practical Nurse – Dixon Correctional Institute
Job Duties- Implement aspects of nursing care plan such as comfort, hygiene, safety measures, and nutrition under supervision of a Registered Nurse or higher level.
- Observe and monitor inmates’ physical and mental status and report significant changes.
- Obtain specimens for laboratory testing.
- Take vital signs including temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure.
- Administer medication and treatments per policies and procedures.
- Transcribe physicians' orders and record medication use and patient condition.
- Receive and give change of shift reports.
- Request stock drugs, medications, and supplies as assigned.
- Administer CPR in emergency situations.
- Admit, transfer, and discharge patients.
- Gather information about the patient’s history and current status.
- Possession of a current Louisiana Practical Nurse license, a temporary permit, or a multi‑state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact state.
- Authorizes the HR Office of DPS&C‑Corrections Services to contact prior employers for reference checks under the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) by answering “Yes” to the PREA question in supplemental questions.
- Shift work is required (24‑hour facility).
- Drug‐free workplace commitment.
- Licensed Practical Nurse 1 – Special Entrance Rate $19.48 per hour.
- Licensed Practical Nurse 2 – Special Entrance Rate $20.84 per hour.
- Licensed Practical Nurse 3 – Special Entrance Rate $22.30 per hour.
- Premium pay of $5.00 per hour for each hour worked in addition to regular pay.
Note:
The maximum amounts listed are the maximum salary amounts a person can make at each level over their career and are not the amount we are allowed to pay a new hire.
Defined benefit pension plan, health insurance (available post‑retirement), at least 10 paid holidays, sick and annual leave rollover, flexible benefits plan, alternate work schedules, and 4/10’s may be available upon meeting policy requirements.
